Feng Shui
Feng Shui is a system used to direct the flow of energy in your
surroundings to create a balanced and positive environment. It works
by harmonising the electromagnetic radiation that issues from the
Earth, the other planets in our solar system, the Sun and that of
our own bodies, thereby enhancing the positive influences of the
environment while avoiding the negative ones. It is used to determine
the best site for ones home, place of work or business and the best
system of design , positioning and interior decorating that avoids
obstructing the natural flow of energy in relation to your own internal
energy. This will create a most favourable environment in which
you can function at the top of your ability. Feng Shui has its origins
in Taoist philosophy, which is basically a hermetic system and by
using this process one can foresee good fortune or problems ahead.
The True Philosophy:
It is important to teach students the right type of attitude
from the beginning of their training. This is why we require our
students to repeat the following 5 principles prior to a class:
1) To achieve Enlightenment in this lifetime
2) To work as a team
3) The value of a mistake is to change
4) Respect your Sifu & Seniors
5) Always be humble
When coming to learn Kung Fu you need to begin with an open mind
and the intention of utilising what you learn in a positive way.
If a student with a bad attitude is allowed to learn advanced applications
they will only further develop their ego and create problems for
more people, and for themselves. This is why the Master spends so
long observing the studentĚs character to see if they really have
the right attitude. The Master has a responsibility to himself to
do this because if he does not, he creates a frankenstein type character
that will only turn on him later. This creation is bad karma for
the student and ultimately the Master. The Master therefore has
a duty to teach, but not to those of the wrong character or who
are unwilling/unable to learn. If the majority of people were to
gain such strength and power, many would use it to take advantage
of other people. With the correct philosophy in place you should
be subjugating the ego and gaining the discipline to further your
spiritual advancement for the initial benefit of yourself, and then
to help other people.
This is true strength and the application of the real power of
Kung Fu - the knowledge to inspire people with compassion and wisdom
and to promote this awareness. We must constantly watch ourselves
to ensure we think and act in the right way. To learn Kung Fu is
to train your mind to control your desires. So even if you reach
Black Belt after 5, 10... years, the wrong character will just further
exaggerate your own weaknesses. The right mental attitude can therefore
never be understated. Humility should be the fundamental foundation
to everything you do.
It is easy to talk or read about the Chinese arts and think that
we understand, but how can we use them to truly benefit our daily
lives? In order to achieve this we must have the guidance of a true
Master. With so many false masters lacking real understanding and
accomplishment, to find one who is willing to teach and train students
is a rare treasure indeed.
About The Yellow Dragon Centre
The Yellow Dragon Centre was established in London China Town
in 1990 by Master Wong as a focal point for his efforts to spread
Knowledge of the chinese arts more widely amongst westerners. Later
on Master Wong realised that it was necessary to find a larger centre
to train the expanding number of students coming to learn. In 1996
the Yellow Dragon Centre was moved to 17- 19 Lever Street, London
EC1V 3QU. As well as a regular Kung Fu, Tai Chi and meditation classes,
the centre runs Feng Shui courses, taking the complete beginner
up to consultant level. Also taking place are martial arts seminars,
which provide a broad introduction to the Yellow Dragon system and
condense the training for those who do not have a great deal of
spare time.
