Another factor in a good training programme is attitude. If you don't want to work hard, and discipline and dedicate yourself, then you will never progress. We have a happy atmosphere in our class, because everybody knows what is expected of them, and when it is expected. There is a time for jokes and a time for being serious. These are about the only two rules Sifu Wong has, and we stick by them, because it makes life easier. We don't want a class like a prison dormitory, but neither do we want it like a fairground. A Sifu is considered a second Father, so we are like one big happy family.
Another matter Sifu Wong is concerned about is the mind. Too many people are concerned about building their bodies without giving a thought to the mind. After all, if it wasn't for the mind, the body wouldn't do even the smallest task. Every action is done first in the mind, and then the body. Also an alarming amount of masters lead their students to believe that they are invincible - no one is invincible. As already stated everybody has a limit. The only thing that is enduring is morality and kindness., Morality is a thing which Sifu Wong totally believes in. This is why whenever new students came to his class he would test them by saying that if they wanted to learn then they would have to just 'sit and watch for three weeks before they could join in the class. Too few people had the patience to do this. so Sifu Wong made things a bit easier for the public. Students now have to recite 'The Five Principles' at the beginning of each lesson. These they have to learn by heart. They are as follows:-
(1) Work as a team.
(2) the 'value' of a mistake is to change.
(3) Don't make others a door, if you can't go through it yourself.
(4) Respect your Sifu and Seniors (one day you may be a Master).
(5) Don't be dishonest and mislead people (one day -someone might-lie to you)
All in all, I think Sifu Simon Wong is a real Master, in the true sense of the word.
