Combat: Tell us about the development of Yellow Dragon Security in line with the London Borough's new legislation

Simon Wong: I think its best if you talk to Desmond Williams who deals with the security issues for Yellow Dragon.

Desmond Williams: Basically they're trying to get rid of the image of bouncers and call them 'door supervisors' in the respect that you are representing the club not the security company. So if you have an aggressive doorman, people believe that is what the club must be like, but if you have a doorman that is well presented and can communicate with people rather than hit them, then that promotes the image of the club. The new laws prevent a lot of unnecessary violence.

Combat: What plan of action did Yellow Dragon take within this framework?

Desmond Williams: There are police and council guidelines that you have to follow on the courses, and we teach the courses as well as providing the security. By using the guidelines we train them for the job, but each borough has different types of people, it's only in the West End that you have people from all walks of life coming in. If you are a doorman in Brixton, then you know what to expect, the same in Chelsea.

Combat: Is the new approach a success?

Desmond Williams: It's been very successful because now they are trying to set up a union of doorman, with insurance cover, because it's a high risk job insurance companies wouldn't normally want to touch you. This way it becomes more of a professional business than a part time thing. You still get the odd idiot but since the scheme was introduced in 1993 there's been a great deal of change. As we expand we are now also looking at personal security. We will continue to teach and provide doormen but we will see what else develops as we expand.

Combat: Thank you for that Desmond. Finally Simon what plans do you have for the future?

Simon Wong: We have run Seminars for the Feng Shui and the Kung Fu, and this year I intend to concentrate more on the music side, we have two albums waiting to be released. The music, Feng Shui and the Kung Fu will also be on-line on the internet. I will also be publishing my own books on Kung Fu. Eventually I want to build a big centre where we can pool all the different courses under one roof. This will include art as I have been a professional artist for many years. It is only when I came to this country that I stopped, so when I have more time I will paint again, in oils or water colour. This year Yellow Dragon will certainly be more popular, life is so much more than martial arts, there is so much to do to make your life more balanced and full.

Combat: We wish you luck with all that.

Simon Wong: Thank You Malcolm
