Yellow Dragon Tai Chi Mantis

Too many instructors are just interested in the commercial aspects of teaching a martial art and not at all interested in the physical and mental welfare of their students. These instructors will only produce trouble makers if they don't teach morality to their students. So for this reason and because Sifu Wong thought he would put all his various martial arts training to good use, he decided to found his own style, to be the ultimate in health and self defence.

Sifu Wong has founded a new style but nonetheless pays proper respect to his Masters and all that they have taught him. Sifu Simon Wong chose the name Yellow Dragon to honour a very esteemed Buddhist Monk - Wong Long Foi Kai (Yellow Dragon). This man met a Taoist - Loi Dong Bung and taught him Buddhism and meditation, deep breathing (Chi Kung) and to build up the spirit from inside (Noi Bang). Loi Dong Bung combined Buddhism and Taoism together and later became a god.

Philosophy of Yellow Dragon Fist

"One is a million, a million is one". Our style is like the ocean that draws on many streams. As long as you are alive you are still capable of learning. There is always a higher mountain, no-one is invincible, everbody has a limit - no human body can win against a bullet. In this world it is not the style that is the best, but finding the one that is suitable to the individual. Learning a martial art should mean making friends not enemies.

If you do good deeds you will create good effects. To be humble does not mean timid. To tolerate does not mean being afraid. Morality and strength go together.

Yellow Dragon Fist System

Sifu Wong has only incorporated the best techniques and. training method into his style. He has been taught only by the best masters. There is nothing in Sifu Wong's style that does not serve its purpose. This system is not a muddled mixture of different styles as some narrow minded critics would say, it is a refined interweaving of the best Kung Fu to create a strong foundation, clear direction and true understanding of life.

Yellow Dragon Fist concentrates a lot of effort in building up speed and power, both internal and external, because in fighting it is the speed and power that is most important. No fight is identical to another. In the ancient days humans had a natural instinct of fighting for survival, but in the modern days humans have become more civilised and group together in communities helping each other to survive without having to fight.

Just like wild animals human beings have natural instincts. A wild animal reacts instinctively to danger, just like a cat when faced with an aggressor. Humans create a veneer of sophistication which mask these natural instincts, but with proper training it can return. We call this reaction power. For example, if you touch a hot pan you will draw your hand away very fast and without thinking.

If you have ever heard of unbalanced people going berserk and having the strength of ten men, this example proves that the nervous system is capable of immense power. We have a way of harnessing this power, under control, using Tjam Jong Gung and Yea Nim (imagination). Together the spirit and the power are built up.

The style shows progress by awarding sashes in the following:
White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Orange, Red, Purple Brown, Brown/Black and Black.

It usually takes 5 - 6 lessons to achieve a white sash. From white to yellow takes usually 25 lessons.

When a Black sash is achieved, the first level is achieved after two years, the second after two years and the third after three years, which makes a progress of 15 years at the end of which the student can follow his own direction.

However a student is given permission to promote the style after achieving the levels of black sash.
